Pinot nero Kollerhof
The vinery: roundabout 500 meters above sea level in the south of South Tyrol is located the town of Mazzon, a hamlet of the municipality of Egna. Today Mazzon is the classic and most famous area of Pinot Nero Doc production in Itlay.
The hill of Mazzon rests on a mighty package of limestone rocks of the Triassic period, among which sandstones, red and yellow siltstones and limestones dominate, along with marl and dolomite.
Mazzon is also characterized by additional and unique geographical factors, such as the modest altitude and the western exposure, which positively influence the maturation of Pinot Noir.
The vinification: to guarantee an excellent quality, an accurate thinning on the vine is essential, which guarantees a uniform maturation.
The de-stemmed grains fall into the steel barrels where the temperature-controlled maceration takes place. For twelve months the young wine matures in different wooden oak barrels of an age between zero and 3 years. Afterwards it rests again in steel until it is bottled.
The wine: in the glass the Pinot Noir is fresh - of a ruby red, the aromas are rich and reminiscent of cherries and wild berries, with slight nuances of tannins.
Recommendations: Pinot Noir - a fruity, rich and adaptable wine - lends itself well with first courses, with white and red meat, both boiled and roasted.
The temperature: Pinot Noir should be served at about 16 ° - 18 °.
The maturity of the wine: The Pinot Noir Kollerhof is maintained for ten years and beyond.
